GUELPH, Ont. – The Windsor Lancers arrived in Guelph on Friday as the No. 4-ranked team in U SPORTS with a perfect 8-0 record. The Gryphons men's volleyball team handed the Lancers their first loss of the season Friday night. And on Saturday night handed them a second. A memorable weekend sweep of the No. 4-ranked team in the country started off on Friday night (Nov. 28), with the Gryphons winning in five-sets (25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 24-26 & 15-13).
Braeden Sears (20 kills) and
Killian Donovan (15 kills, 3 aces, 13 digs) helped lead the way for the Gryphons in the five-set victory. Less than 24 hours later, the Gryphons and Lancers were back at it at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre, with Guelph winning in four-sets (25-23, 25-19, 23-25 & 25-19). Donovan (22 kills) and Sears (13 kills) once again helped spearhead the Gryphon attack on Saturday, with the Gryphons improving to 6-4 on the season with the weekend sweep. The Gryphons (6-4) will resume their OUA regular season schedule in the new year with yet another tough test against a U SPORTS Top 10-ranked opponent, with the Gryphons set to travel to Kingston for a pair of weekend matchups with the No. 7-ranked Queen's Gaels (8-2) on Friday, Jan. 9 and Saturday, Jan. 10.
