KINGSTON, Ont. - Friday night (Oct. 24, 2025) at Queen's University's Nixon Field in Kingston, the Gryphons women's rugby team saw their quest for back-to-back OUA banners come up short, with the host Queen's Gaels defeating the visiting Gryphons by a score of 61-21 in the OUA Women's Rugby Championship game. The latest edition of this battle between perennial powers in OUA women's rugby saw plenty of points scored on the night, with Guelph matching Queen's early on blow for blow. The Gryphons closed out the first half with a set of back-to-back tries.
Taylor McKnight found the try zone first before Addy Holmes scored for Guelph, with
Grace Jacklyn and
Milla Sayavongsa converting on both to cut the Queen's lead to 26-21 at half time. But the Gaels would pull away in the second half, outscoring the Gryphons 35-0 the rest of the way en route to the 61-21 victory. Friday night's game marked the eighth consecutive year in which Queen's and Guelph have met up in the OUA gold medal game in women's rugby. Both teams will now head out west for the 2025 U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship in Vancouver, B.C. Seeding for the championship will be announced later this weekend.
