GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons women's basketball team started off the 2025-26 season with a statement. On Friday night (Oct. 24, 2025) at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre, the Gryphons women's basketball team earned a 67-57 victory over the reigning OUA champion, Ottawa Gee-Gees, in the opening game of the 2025-26 OUA regular season schedule. The Gryphons held the Gee-Gees to just 8 points in the 2nd quarter, and took a 7-point lead into the locker room at halftime. After the Gee-Gees battled back to tie the game early in the 4th quarter, a three-pointer from Gryphons guard
Hannah Bourdon would give the lead back to the Gryphons, who would not look back from there, outscoring Ottawa 19-12 in the final quarter en route to the 67-57 victory. The win marked the first under Gryphons head coach,
Christine Hyde, who was named head coach of the University of Guelph women's basketball program back in the summer. Gryphons fourth-year guard,
Hannah Bourdon, led the way with 18 points on the night, and was one of four Gryphons to score in double figures against the Gee-Gees (
Christina Morra – 15 points,
Alexis Wright – 14 points,
Macy Weber 10 points, 11 rebounds). The Gryphons (1-0) will return to action Saturday night (Oct. 25) to host the Carleton Ravens.
