GUELPH, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons were unable to overcome an early deficit as they suffered a 6-3 loss to the Brock Badgers on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 10). The Gryphons were looking for a bounce back game following their 5-1 loss to TMU on Saturday (Nov. 9), however the start of the game didn't go as planned for the hosts as the Badgers scored three times in the opening 15 minutes into the game to take a 3-0 lead. Guelph would get a goal back in the period when
Jonah De Simone scored to trim the deficit down to two after 20 minutes of play. However, the Badgers would score on the power play from Zack Stringer, 47 seconds into the second to restore their three-goal advantage before Holden Rogers scored a shorthanded goal at 8:10 of the period to extend their lead to 5-1. The Gryphons would cancel out the shorthanded goal 47 seconds later when
Hunter Brazier's power play marker got the Gryphs back within three.
Jacob Winterton would add another power play goal early in the third to trim the deficit down to two, but it would be as close as Guelph would get as Holden Rogers would score his second goal of the game into the empty net to clinch the road win for Brock. The Badgers move to 5-5 on the season with the win, while the Gryphons drop to 6-6 on the season following their third straight loss. Despite the loss, Guelph is currently in fourth place in a tight OUA West with three points separating them from top spot in the division.
The Gryphons (6-6) will now travel to Thunder Bay to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves (6-4) for a weekend doubleheader starting on Friday night (Nov. 15), with puck drop scheduled for 7pm. Both weekend games from Fort Williams Gardens can been seen live online on oua.tv.
