MHKY RECAP: Jacob Winterton Scores Twice, Gryphons Beat Ridgebacks 3-2

GUELPH, Ont. – On Friday night (Nov. 3) at the Gryphon Centre Arena, the Guelph Gryphons men's hockey team continued their fine form on home ice, picking up a 3-2 win over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. Gryphons third-year forward, Jacob Winterton (Whitby, ON), helped lead the way for the Gryphons with a pair of goals on the night, his second of which came midway through the 2nd period to put Guelph up 3-1. Ontario Tech would get one back late in the 3rd period to make it 3-2, but the Gryphons would hold on from there to improve to 4-4-0 on the season. Winterton's two goals on the night gives him five on the season through eight regular season games, tying him for the team-lead with teammate Jonah De Simone, who also found the back of the net on Friday net versus the Ridgebacks, with De Simone's 5th goal of the season giving Guelph a 2-1 lead over Ontario Tech in the 1st period. Gryphon forward Anthony Tabak, who last season was named to the OUA All-Rookie Team, continued his strong start to his sophomore season, with the former member of the Barrie Colts picking up a pair of assists in Guelph's win over the Ridgebacks on Friday night. Tabak now has 8 points (2 G, 6 A) through 8 regular season games played this season, ranking him second on the team's scoring leaders behind only Nolan DeGurse (9 points – 2 G, 7 A). Another former Barrie Colt impressed on Friday night in Gryphons third-year goaltender, Tanner Wickware, who continued his strong 2023-24 season by turning away 28 of the 29 shots sent his way for his third win of the season.

The Gryphons (4-4-0) are now 4-1 in five home games this season at the Gryphon Centre Arena, and will look to make it five wins in six home games on Saturday night (Nov. 4) when the Gryphons play host to the Windsor Lancers (4-3-0). Puck drop on Saturday night is set for 7:30pm with tickets available online at gryphons.ca/tickets. The game can also be seen live online at www.oua.tv.
