GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons men's hockey team made it five straight wins on home ice, as they defeated the Windsor Lancers 4-2 on Saturday night (Nov. 4, 2023) at the Gryphon Centre.
Luke Kutkevicius had 2 goals,
Nolan DeGurse had a 3-point night (1 G, 2 A) and
Tanner Wickware turned away 30 of the 32 shots he faced from Windsor to help the Gryphons improve to 5-4-0 on the season and jump ahead of the Lancers (4-4-0) in the OUA West standings.
With the game tied at 2-2 midway through the 2nd period,
Nolan DeGurse tipped home a point shot from
Jaxon Camp for what would ultimately prove to be the game-winner. It was the 3rd of the season for DeGurse, who ranks in the Top 10 in the OUA in scoring with 12 points (3 G, 9 A) through 9 regular season games played. Kutkevicius would cap the scoring the 3rd period with his second of the night, bring his season-total to a team-best 6 goals scored.
Wickware made some key saves throughout the night while picking up his 4th win of the season in between the pipes for the Gryphons.
Anthony Tabak also found the back of the net for the Gryphons on Saturday night, with his goal capping off an eventful end to the 1st period, in which the Gryphons and Lancers combined for three goals in just :36 seconds.
The Gryphons (5-4-0) will return to action next Thursday (Nov. 9) with a short road trip to Waterloo to face the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (3-5-2).
