MHKY RECAP: Gryphons Explode for 10 Goals, Defeat RMC 10-4 Friday Night

GUELPH, Ont. - The Gryphons men's hockey team had their best offensive performance in recent memory, finding the back of the net 10 times to defeat the RMC Paladins 10-4 on Friday night (Oct. 20) at the Gryphon Centre. Luke Kutkevicius scored his first career OUA hattrick and Nolan DeGurse picked up four points in the win which saw six different U of G student-athletes score. It was the first time the Gryphons and Paladins had met since the 2018-19 season which saw the Gryphons claim a 4-0 win on home ice.

The Gryphon powerplay scored four times, twice from Jonah De Simone in addition to Luke Kutkevicius netting his first of the game and third-year defenceman Jaxon Camp scoring his first of the season. Camp was one of five Gryphons to score their first goal of the season in the blowout win. Goaltender Brendan Cregan made his first start of the 2023-24 season, stopping 26 of 30 shots faced to help the Gryphons pick up their second win of the season.

After the team had built a 3-1 lead in the first period, a four goal second period and three goal third, vaulted the Gryphons to the win. The U of G squad now sits at 2-2 on the season with both wins coming on home ice. The Gryphons will return to the Gryphon Centre tomorrow night (Oct. 21) to host the OUA East leading Queen's Geals with puck drop set for 7:30pm.
