GUELPH, Ont. – On Saturday afternoon (Sept. 17) at the University of Guelph's Varsity Field, the Guelph Gryphons women's rugby team played host to the York Lions in the first half of a rugby doubleheader with the Gryphons men's team, which was part of the "Gryphons Rugby Alumni Day" celebrations. The Gryphons women's rugby team gave the alumni in attendance plenty to celebrate about, dominating the Lions from start to finish in a 102-0 victory. The Gryphons recorded 16 tries and 10 converts while cruising to their third victory of the season. Helping lead the way for the Gryphons on the day were Nerine Cavadias and Kendra Cousineau, who accounted for 21 and 17 points respectively. In total, 11 different Gryphons scored tries for the team including Abigail Anderson and Maddie Hobson who each scored twice. The Gryphons improved to 3-0 on the 2022 season following another dominant performance last week (Sept. 10) against the McMaster Marauders which saw them win 86-5. The Gryphons (3-0), ranked No. 5 in the latest national rankings, will look to improve to 4-0 next Friday, September 23 when they head to Toronto to take on the University of Toronto Varsity Blues in a night game set for 7:30pm.
