GUELPH, Ont. - On Saturday afternoon (Sept. 10) at the University of Guelph's Varsity Field, the Guelph Gryphons women's rugby team played host to the McMaster Marauders in a match that marked the 2022 home opener for the defending conference champion Gryphons. It was a dominant performance from start to finish for the host Gryphons, who recorded a total of 14 tries in the match, en route to a convincing 86-5 victory over the Marauders. Although the game marked the first official on-field action of the season for the Gryphons women's rugby team, it technically marked the second victory of the 2022 season for the Gryphons, who improved to 2-0 on the 2022 season after the Gryphons were awarded a victory over Brock back on Sept. 3 when the Badgers were forced to forfeit the match that would have served as the season opener for both teams.
The Gryphons (2-0), ranked No. 5 in the national rankings, will look to improve to 3-0 next Saturday (Sept. 17) when they play host to the York Lions at 1pm. That match is part of "Gryphon Rugby Day," with the Gryphons men's rugby team also in action following the women's match for a 3:30pm start.
