WRGBY RECAP: Gryphons finish the season 4th in the Nation After Falling to Ottawa 29-7 in U SPORTS Bronze Medal Match

VICTORIA, British Columbia. – On Saturday afternoon (Nov. 6) the Gryphons women's rugby team's 2022 season came to an end as they were defeated by the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the U SPORTS Championship bronze medal game 29-7.
 
The Bronze Medal match between the Gryphons and opened with a Gee-Gees score 8 minutes into the match from Claire Gallagher.Taylor McKnight vs Ottawa 2022 The two teams would exchange possessions for the next 10 minutes with each team getting into scoring territory but being slowed down by penalties. The Gryphons found themselves on the scoreboard after Taylor McKnight powered her way into the endzone for the try. Kendra Cousineau would split the uprights to give the Gryphons a 7-5 lead midway through the first half. The Gee-Gees would respond with a try and convert in the 34th minute to take a 5-point lead before taking advantage of a free kick to enter the half up 15-7 on the Gryphons. The second half would see both teams exchange blows and possessions with neither team able to build any momentum. It would take 34 minutes in the second half before Ottawa would find the endzone again. 5 minutes later they would score again to close out the match and take home the bronze medal by a score of 29-7. McKnight's try and Cousineau's convert would prove to be the lone Gryphon points on the day.
 
The Gryphons finish the season 4th in the country after defeating the UBC Thunderbirds in the quarterfinal round in dramatic fashion, 26-25, and dropping their semi-final match to the Laval Rouge et Or 30-8.  The Gryphons once again proved themselves to be one of the best women's rugby programs in the nation, qualifying for the U SPORTS Championships after another exceptional season. The regular season saw the Gryphons go 5-1 in OUA play, while also picking up a semi-final win against the Brock Badgers and advancing to their 14th straight OUA Championship game.
