Guelph Gryphons (16-2) vs Queen's Gaels (10-4)

Looking to continue their exceptional regular season, the Guelph Gryphons baseball team is ready roll this weekend at the 2022 OUA Championships in Kitchener. During the 2022 regular season, the Gryphons put together the best record in program history, going 16-2 in conference play and 7-0 in non-conference action. Peter ZytnerLast weekend (Oct. 7-8) at the OUA Regional Qualifiers, the Gryphons continued their winning ways, going undefeated (3-0) to claim their spot among the final four teams in the conference at the 2022 OUA Championship Tournament. The Gryphons are now just two wins away from taking home their first OUA Championship in program history, and will face the Queen's Gaels on Friday afternoon in a conference semifinal. On the other side of the bracket, the defending OUA champion Toronto Varsity Blues face the Waterloo Warriors. Helping lead the way for the Gryphons in 2022 is third-baseman, Sam Brown, with the recently named OUA Athlete of the Week coming off a sensational three game performance in the OUA Regional Qualifiers. But it is far from a one-man show for the Gryphons, who have received contributions from up and down the lineup all season long, including standout seasons from first-baseman Arthur Kowara and shortstop Braedon Walsh. With a talented pitching staff, headlined by proven veteran Peter Zytner, ready to go, the Gryphons will arrive at Jack Couch Park in Kitchener with their sights set on putting a bow on what has been a sensational 2022 season. Should the Gryphons win on Friday afternoon versus Queen's, the team would head to Saturday's OUA title game, scheduled for 1:30pm on Saturday, Oct. 15 versus the winner of the U of T/Waterloo semifinal.

This weekend at Hylands Golf Club in Ottawa, nine Gryphon golfers will represent the University of Guelph while taking part in the 2022 OUA Golf Championships. The Gryphons will be eyeing a spot on the podium on both the men's and women's sides, with Justin Allen and Jacqueline Giles both looking to cap off memorable 2022 seasons as the OUA individual scoring champions.

Representing the Gryphons on the men's side at this year's OUA Championships is Justin Allen, Kobe Smith, Wes Gill, Liam Fisher, and Curtis Coulson, with the top four scores from the five U of G men's golfers counting towards the overall team standings. Justin Allen - 2021 Gryphon InvitationalOn the women's side, a total of four Gryphon golfers will be in the field, with Jacqueline Giles, Faith Hertner, Keira Cotter, and Ella Oster all set to represent U of G at the conference championship tournament. A season ago, Jacqueline Giles made Gryphon history, by becoming the first U of G women's golfer ever to be crowned OUA individual scoring champion. Now in her second year, Giles will look to defend her individual OUA title, with the molecular biology and genetics major having impressed throughout the Gryphons tournament schedule in 2022. Of the four Gryphons women's golfers in the field this week, the top three scores will be counted when it comes to the women's overall team standings.

On the men's side, the Gryphons are led by Justin Allen, a 5th-year marketing management major who has put together a sensational career with the Gryphons golf program. The Etobicoke native earned OUA First Team All-Star status a season ago after finishing 3rd overall in individual men's scoring at the 2021 OUA Golf Championships. Allen has continued to impress in 2022, with a 2nd-place finish at the Western Invitational (Sept. 15) then followed it up with a 1st-place finish at the McMaster Invitational (Sept. 19) and a T-2nd-place finish at the Brock Invitational (Sept. 25). Tee times for the weekend are set for 9am, on both Saturday and Sunday, as the Gryphons look to test themselves in the nation's capital against the top golfers from across the OUA.
