WINDSOR, Ont. – As far as road wins go, they don't get much better. The Guelph Gryphons men's hockey team kept their good run going with an efficient 1-0 win over the Windsor Lancers Saturday night.
Matt Kenney scored the lone goal of the game, while netminder
Evan Cormier stopped all 28 shots that came his way for the second shutout of his debut season with the red, black and gold.
Kenney has showed an excellent scoring touch and just as he did Thursday in a 5-2 Guelph win over York on Aggies Night, he would notch the opening goal of the game. This time, it would stand as the winner. The second-year forward from London, ON burst down the right wing and unleashed a shot from the circle with a Lancers' defender in front of him, getting it past goalie Jonathan Reinhart 1:27 into the third period.
Cormier was composed at the other end of the rink throughout the night. He made several key saves and with the Windsor net empty and an extra attacker on the ice, he stood tall down the stretch to preserve the shutout.
Guelph leads the OUA in shots on goal per game and the team fired another 40 Reinhart's way Saturday
The Gryphons are rebounding after a difficult start to the season. They have now won three straight and four of the past five.
Gryphon Take
"This was a great road performance for us because Windsor is a very tough place to play in. We played a good systems game tonight and credit to the guys for staying disciplined with their assignments and their emotions. We also got excellent goaltending from Evan. The game had a real playoff atmosphere, very intense." –
