ST. CATHARINES, ON - Saturday afternoon in St. Catharines, the Gryphons men's basketball team sufferd an 86-75 loss to the No. 6-ranked Brock Badgers. With the result, the Gryphons fall to 2-2 on the season while Brock improves to 3-0. The loss also marked Guelph's first road loss of the year after starting with away wins over both Western and Windsor.
Fourth year forward
Ahmed Haroon led the way for the Gryphons with a team-high 18 points to go alone with 7 rebounds and 4 steals.
Taylor Boers poured in 14 points off the bench while rookie guard
Jordan Sobot chipped in with 12 points off the bench. The Gryphons got off to a slow start and found themselves down seven after the opening quarter. A strong second quarter trimmed the deficit to just three heading into the half. But a big third quarter by the Badgers, in which they outscored the Gryphons 26-17, would help the Badgers to an eventual nine-point victory.
The Gryphons shot well from beyond the arc, finishing 5-of-10 from downtown, but struggled from the free throw line connecting on just 14 of 29 (48%) from the charity stripe. Dani Elgadi led the way for Brock with 23 points and 15 rebounds, as the Badgers were able to shoot an impressive 50.7% from the field (34-of-67).
Things don't get any easier for the Gryphons who, after having just faced the No. 6-ranked Badgers on the road, will now head to Hamilton to face the No. 3-ranked McMaster Marauders. The Marauders are 2-1 on the season with their only loss being a 72-71 setback versus Brock.
The Gryphons and Marauders will tip at 8pm on Wednesday, November 23rd at Burridge Gymnasium.
