MBB: Gryphons Suffer 92-77 Loss at No. 6-ranked McMaster

HAMILTON, ON - Wednesday night in Hamilton, the Gryphons men's basketball team suffered a 92-77 loss to the No. 6-ranked McMaster Marauders. With the result, the Gryphons fall to 2-3 on the season while the Marauders improve to 3-1.

After heading into the locker room trailing by just eight points on the road against the No. 6-team in the country, the Gryphons would start slowly in the 2nd half with McMaster outscoring the Gryphs 31-15 in the 3rd quarter. After trailing just 39-31 after two quarters of play, the Gryphons suddenly found themselves down 70-46 heading to the 4th.

As they have done all season long, rookie guard Jordan Sobot and fourth year guard Taylor Boers would provide the Gryphons with a nice spark off the bench. Sobot, a rookie point guard out of Burlington, finished with 14 points and was 3-of-7 from beyond the arc, while the veteran Belleville native Taylor Boers poured in 16 points off the pine and was a perfect 2-for-2 from downtown. Ahmed Haroon was the Gryphons lone starter to score in double figures, finishing with 13 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Jonathan Wallace, last year's leading scorer, struggled, going just 2-for-11 on the night.

The Gryphons were outrebounded 53-30 on the night and struggled to contain McMaster's 6-foot-7 forward Connor Gilmore who had 21 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Marauders guard Rohan Boney also had a big night for Mac, finishing with 24 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists.

The Gryphons (2-3) now have one game remaining before the exam/Christmas break and will wrap up the 2016 portion of their schedule with a home game against the York Lions (2-1) on Saturday, December 3rd at 8pm. The Gryphons defeated York 102-98 in their lone meeting a season ago
