WINDSOR, ON - When it comes to women's basketball, the Gryphons are fielding one of the youngest teams in the conference this season. That relative lack of experience was evident on Wednesday night as the Gryphs hit the road to take on one of the top teams in the country in the Windsor Lancers. The Lancers, who entered the game as the No. 5-ranked team in the national polls, cruised to an 89-42 win over the visiting Gryphons. With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 0-3 on the season while Windsor improves to 3-0.
The Lancers, who opened their season with blowout wins over Nipissing and Laurentian, were able to jump out to a big lead early on, outscoring the Gryphons 23-10 in the opening quarter. Windsor would take a 22-point lead into the half and held a 34-point lead after three quarters of play. A bright spot on the night for the Gryphons was the play of second year guard
Sarah Holmes who finished the night with a team-high 14 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting.
The Gryphons will look to bounce back on Saturday in St. Catharines when they travel to Brock University to face the 1-1 Badgers. Tip is set for 1pm at Bob Davis Gynmasium.
