ST. CATHARINES, ON - Saturday afternoon in St. Catharines, the Gryphons women's basketball team lost 82-53 to the Brock Badgers. With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 0-4 on the season while the Badgers improve to 2-1.
After playing Brock tough in the opening quarter, the Gryphons trailed by just one point heading to the 2nd quarter. The Badgers were able to outscore Guelph 24-12 in the 2nd before putting the game away with a 21-8 4th quarter.
Gryphons second year forward
Ashley Wheeler came off the bench to score a team-high 11 points to go with 8 rebounds. The Badgers meanwhile were led by Kira Cornelissen who had 31 points and 15 rebounds. Former Gryphon Bridget Atkinson, who transferred to Brock in the offseason, finished with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists in her first game versus her former team.
The Gryphons will now travel to Hamilton to face the No. 2-ranked team in the country in the McMaster Marauders. The Marauders are off to a 3-0 start, which includes a 35-pointn win over Brock, and will host the Gryphons on Wednesday, November 23rd at 6pm.
