GUELPH, ON - Saturday afternoon at the Gryphon Centre, the No. 5-ranked Gryphons women's hockey team won 3-2 over the No. 10-ranked visiting Western Mustangs. With the win, the Gryphons improve to 8-1-1 on the season while Western falls to 4-5-0.
When these two teams met in the season opener, it was Western who escaped with a 3-2 overtime victory. On Saturday at U of G, it appeared the two OUA rivals were once again destined for overtime with the game tied at 2-2 in the final period. But with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation, Gryphons second year centre
Karli Shell (Lively, ON) would score the game-winner to lift the Gryphons to a 3-2 victory.
Third year winger
Kaitlin Lowy continued her red hot play for the Gryphons, recording her second consecutive multi-goal game, giving her a team-leading seven goals on the season. The Gryphons outshot Western 35-19 in the game and will now turn their attention to a critical trip north.
Up next for the Gryphons, who currently sit one point ahead of Nipissing for top spot in the OUA standings, is a trip north to face the Lakers on Friday, Nov. 18th.
