WBB: Gryphons fall to Gaels in Home Opener

GUELPH, ON - Saturday night at the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre the Gryphons women's basketball team lost 63-47 to the Queen's Gaels. With the result, the Gryphons fall to 0-2 on the season while Queen's improves to 2-0.

Saturday night's game was the Gryphons 2016 home opener, and for the majority of the game, the Gryphons showcased their ability to go toe-to-toe with the No. 7-ranked team in the country. The Gryphons trailed by just one point after the opening quarter and went into halftime down just four. The Gaels were able to outscore the Gryphons by 12 in the second half en route to the 63-47 win. Gryphons second year guard Sarah Holmes finished with a team-high 12 points and 8 rebounds. Quincy Sickles-Jarvis poured in 10 points off the bench to go along with 4 rebounds and 3 steals. The Gryphons did an excellent job locking down Queen's shooters on the perimeter, as the Gaels finished the game 0-for-15 from beyond the arc. The Gaels were led by fifth year senior and OUA All-Star Robyn Pearson who finished the night with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Things do not get any easier from here for the Gryphons (0-2) who will next be in action on Wednesday, Nov. 16 in Windsor when they will face the No. 6-ranked Lancers.
