GUELPH, ON - Saturday night at the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre the Gryphons women's basketball team lost 63-47 to the Queen's Gaels. With the result, the Gryphons fall to 0-2 on the season while Queen's improves to 2-0.
Saturday night's game was the Gryphons 2016 home opener, and for the majority of the game, the Gryphons showcased their ability to go toe-to-toe with the No. 7-ranked team in the country. The Gryphons trailed by just one point after the opening quarter and went into halftime down just four. Sarah Holmes finished with a team-high 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Quincy Sickles-Jarvis poured in 10 points off the bench to go along with 4 rebounds and 3 steals. The Gryphons did an excellent job locking down Queen's shooters on the perimeter, as the Gaels finished the game 0-for-15 from beyond the arc. The Gaels were led by fifth year senior and OUA All-Star Robyn Pearson who finished the night with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Things do not get any easier from here for the Gryphons (0-2) who will next be in action on Wednesday, Nov. 16 in Windsor when they will face the No. 6-ranked Lancers.
