PLAYOFF PREVIEW: Women's Rugby & Women's Lacrosse

GUELPH, ON - This weekend, a pair of Gryphon varsity teams will be taking part in OUA playoff action.

Women's Rugby

The Gryphons women's rugby squad, the No. 2-ranked women's rugby program in the country, will play host to the No. 7-ranked Queen's Gaels on Saturday, October 22 at 1pm at Varsity Field. This season, the Gryphons went undefeated during the regular season before rolling over the Waterloo Warriors in the Quarterfinals to reach the conference semi's. A win on Saturday versus Queen's, and the Gryphons would book a spot in the OUA Final while also guaranteeing themselves a spot at the CIS Championships which will be held November 3-6 at the University of Victoria.

Saturday's game between Guelph and Queen's is a re-match of last year's OUA Semifinal which the Gryphons won 38-3. The two teams have already met once earlier this season back on October 1 with the Gryphons winning 50-5. The winner of this Saturday's match will face the winner of Friday night's McMaster-Western match.

Women's Lacrosse

The Gryphons women's lacrosse team is off to Hamilton this weekend to take part in the 2016 Women's Lacrosse OUA Championship Tournament. The Gryphons, who posted a 4-8-1 record during the regular season to finish 4th in the OUA West Division, will open up the tournament on Friday, October 21 with a 12:45pm game against York. The Gryphons and Lions met back on September 11 with the Gryphons winning 15-4. The OUA Championship Tournament, which is being hosted by the McMaster Marauders, is a round robin format from which four semi-finalist teams will emerge.
