GUELPH, ON - The University of Guelph women's volleyball team was swept 3-0 at home Friday night by the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Set scores were 23-25, 22-25 & 22-25. With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 6-6 on the season while Ottawa improves to 7-4.

The first set was close early on but the Gryphons managed to forge a 16-11 lead at the technical timeout. Guelph held the lead until 20-15 but serving and hitting mistakes allowed Ottawa to close the gap and win the set 25-23.

Set 2 was a nearly identical story with the Gryphons leading at the technical timeout , but the Gee-Gees stepped up their defence and surged ahead late to win 25-22. The third set stayed close throughout with neither team leading by more than a few points but Ottawa established a 2 point lead late and closed out the set winning 25-22.
 
Coach Funk said, "We gave ourselves a chance to win each set but our execution down the stretch was not good enough. Ottawa raised their level late in sets and we were unable to do the same." Maddie Dedecker led the Guelph offence with 13 points (10 kills, 1 ace, 2 blocks) followed by Becky Breau with 12 (11 kills, 1 block) while Cayte Wilson and Kristen Almhjell each had 10 digs on the defensive side. Guelph's next action is on the road in Hamilton on Sunday when they will take on the McMaster Marauders at 3pm.
