Lennoxville, QC -
Friday night in Lennoxville, Quebec the Gryphons Men's Lacrosse team's bid to win a third straight national title came to an end with a 6-5 loss versus Bishop's in a thrilling Baggataway Cup Quarter-final matchup.

The teams traded goals early with Bishop's opening the scoring followed by a quick response from the Gryphons. After a tightly contested opening quarter, it was Bishop's who held a slim 2-1 lead. The Gryphon defence was solid once again on this night, shutting down all the main threats from the Gaiters during the 2nd quarter. As a result, the Gryphons would soon start to find their stride on the offensive end as well. Three unanswered goals from the visitors gave Guelph a 4-2 lead at the half.

Bishop's came out in a zone defence in the second half which caused the Gryphons some issues. After the Gaiters tallied three unanswered goals of their own, the Gryphons found themselves trailing 5-4 late in the 4th. With under 30 seconds remaining and their season on the line, the Gryphons would show tremendous character to score the tying goal and knotting the game at 5-5. With overtime looming, an unthinkable ending would unfold in the final seconds as Bishop's Simon Winquist would go end-to-end off of the ensuing faceoff and score the game winner at the death to give the Gaiters a dramatic 6-5 victory. It was the type of heroic effort needed to take down the two-time defending national champion Gryphons, who showed tremendous character themselves in the game. The Gaiters move on to the Baggataway Semi-final to face Western on Saturday while the Gryphons impressive 2015 campaign comes to an end.
