BRAMPTON, Ont. – For the sixth time in program history, and the first time in 11 years, the Guelph Gryphons have been crowned national champions in Canadian University Field Lacrosse. In snowy conditions on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 9, 2025) at Terry Fox Stadium in Brampton, Ontario, the Gryphons earned the title of 2025 Baggataway Cup champions, defeating the Nipissing Lakers in the national championship game by a score of 16-5. The Gryphons have now won national titles in the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association in 2025, 2014, 2013, 2008, 2000 & 1995.
The Gryphons earned a spot in Sunday's championship game after defeating the Brock Badgers, 15-10, on Saturday in the semifinals. The Nipissing Lakers, meanwhile, booked a spot in the title game after
upsetting the top-seeded McGill Redbirds in their semifinal matchup on Saturday. The Gryphons entered Sunday's final with an 11-1 overall record on the season, with their only loss on the year coming at the hands of the Nipissing Lakers back on September 7 in North Bay. But the Gryphons would come out strong in the Baggataway Cup championship game, with 1st period goals from Robbie Baxter and
Zack Poirier. In the 2nd quarter, Guelph would extend their lead to 6-1, with goals from
Ethan Lee,
Ethan Brown,
Liam Aston and Carter McKay. The Gryphons led 8-1 at halftime and never looked back en route to the 16-5 victory.
Liam Aston led all scorers with 4 goals, Robbie Baxter and
Ethan Lee both recorded hat tricks.
Logan Pagano made 14 saves in net for the Gryphons.
