Guelph, ON - The University of Guelph women's volleyball team picked up a 3-1 win over the York Lions on the road this afternoon. Set scores were 25-11, 22-25, 25-13 & 25-19. The first set saw the Gryphons open an early lead at 6-1 and then used a 10-2 run later to win the set comfortably at 25-11. In set 2, both teams battled back and forth through most of the set but York forged ahead late and took the set 25-22. In the third set, the Gryphons opened up a four point lead early and then used a 5-0 run later to take control of the set to win 25-13. Set 4 again had Guelph taking an early 4 point lead and York could get no closer the rest of the set with the Gryphons finishing the match at 25-19.
 
Coach Funk stated, "We were able to take leads early in 3 of the 4 sets today which allowed us to relax and play. We did a good job of siding out consistently in the fourth set despite some pressure from York to finish things off." Three Gryphons finished with 16 points; Becky Breau (12 kills, 4 blocks), Victoria Golebiowski (12 kills, 4 aces) and Maddie DeDecker (13 kills, 3 aces, 1 block) with Golebiowski contributing 19 digs on defense. Guelph's schedule continues next weekend when they travel to Kingston to play Queen's on Saturday and RMC on Sunday with both matches starting at 1pm.
