Box Score Hamilton, ON – The Gryphons men's volleyball team lost in straight sets Thursday night in Hamilton against the top ranked team in the country, the McMaster Marauders. Set scores were 23-25, 18-25, 15-25. The Gryphons have now lost five in a row and sit at 8-9 on the season. Meanwhile, the Marauders improve to 16-1 and have now won 16 in a row after dropping their season opener.
In the opening set, the Gryphons played some terrific volleyball and were giving the top team in the country all they could handle.
Marc Wilson (Stratford, ON) led the way for the Gryphons, coming up with a number of big kills, to go along with some great play at the net on the defensive side. Unfortunately, the Marauders were able to come out on top of that tight, back-and-forth set, as they took it 25-23.
In the second and third sets, the Marauders would show why they are the No. 1 team in the CIS, as they would use a well balanced attack and strong defensive play to hold the Gryphons to 18 and 15 points respectively en route to the straight sets victory.
The Gryphons men's volleyball team will be right back in action on Friday night (Jan. 31) when they host the Waterloo Warriors (12-5) who have won nine of their last 10. That match is set for 8pm at the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre.
