London, Ont. (September 25, 2014) - Gryphon men's volleyball opened their preseason Thursday night dropping a hard fought 3-2 final to the Western Mustangs in London. Set scores were (21-25, 20-25, 25-18, 26-24 and 12-15). 
Guelph played without fifth year standout and team captain, Patrick Strzalkowski while taking on the defending CIS silver medalist Western Mustangs. Guelph used the opportunity to role different lineups and play five different rookies to help them get ready for the impending season. Guelph was lead by Marc Wilson with eight kills, two blocks and one service ace. Luke Woud was also a force at the net with six kills and four blocks. First year player Zach Newman had four service aces to go along with his seven points. 
Next up the Gryphons will host a pre-season match Tuesday night in Guelph against Humber College.
