After several long rallies, Western would eventually take an 11-8 lead. Strong serving from Guelph's Patrick Strzalkowski would even things up at 11. Western would go on to take four of the next five points to take the leas 15-12. Western would extend this lead to 20-16. Guelph would battle back to make it a one-point game, but a service error from the Gryphon's would eventually give Western the set, 25-23. Despite the set loss, the Gryphon's played some resilient volleyball, battling back from multiple deficits to make it a close set.

Similar to the first set, the second opened with back and forth scoring from both teams, with Western ahead 6-5. Western would start to gather momentum, going up 12-7, and eventually 16-8. Western would continue their strong attacking game, taking a 22-11 lead. Guelph simply could not gain any momentum in the set. Guelph's Patrick Strzalkowski was on fire with his serving for much of the match, and he used it to Guelph's advantage in the third set bringing them back from an early deficit to tie things up at three. Things would remain close in the early going of the set. A cheeky pitch over the net from Guelph's Kyle Richards would tie the set up again at six. Richards frequently utilizes this tactic to throw his opponents off guard, usually with much success. Western would eventually take a slim 13-10 lead over the Gryphon's. The two teams would continue to treat the fans to some long rallies, with the Mustangs getting the better of Guelph most of the time, taking a 20-16 lead. More strong serving from Guelph's Patrick Strzalkowski would get the Gryphon's back into the set late, but a service error would end things as the Mustangs took the set 25-23.
