MVB: Gryphons win 4th straight, upset 8th ranked Western

Gryphons take down 8th ranked Western 3-1
Box Score
London, Ont. – The Gryphon men's volleyball team is officially on a roll to start the season.  After  a dramatic 5-set victory over Windsor one night earlier, it would have been understandable if the Gryphons had a let-down on Saturday night in London when they took on the previously undefeated Western.  Instead, the Gryphons handed the 8th ranked Mustangs their first loss of the season with a 3-sets-to-1 victory.  The Gryphons have now won four straight after dropping their season opener at Ryerson.

Fifth year captain Patrick Strzalkowski  (St. Catherine's, Ont.) did a bit of everything with 15 points, three service aces, 11 kills and six digs.  Fifth year middle Marc Wilson (Stratford, Ont.), who missed Friday night's game in Windsor due to an illness, was back in the fold on Saturday night.  Wilson, who finished with 10 kills while also picking up four block assists and one ace, would seal the victory with a huge block for the match-winning point.  Joshua Green (Georgetown, Ont.) had a team-high 12 kills in what was another strong team effort by the Gryphons.

Despite the fact that it is only November 1st, the Gryphons now sit just one win away from matching their season total from a year ago (went 5-15 in 2013-2014).  The Gryphons will try to keep the momentum going to this red-hot start to the season when they return home to the W.F. Mitchell Athletic Centre on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 7 & 8) when they host U of T and Ryerson
