The Gryphons baseball team continued their winning ways on Sunday when they traveled to Toronto to play the Ryerson Rams. Guelph was looking to push its winning streak to nine games and keep pace with Western and Brock at the top of the standings.
Lucas Borges made the start in game one, and was staked to an early lead as 3rd baseman
Sean Molony hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the second. Borges surrendered a home run in the fourth to tie the game up, but that would be all the Rams would be able to push across against Borges in his six innings of work.
Matthew Forer knocked in
Peter Ricciardi with a double to put the Gryphs back out front. Guelph got the insurance runs they needed in the 6th as Ricciardi and
Wesley Romak each picked up RBI's and helped propel the Gryphs to a 7-1 victory.
The second game of the doubleheader saw
Jeffrey Snelgrove make his first start of the season on the mound. Snelgrove was solid pitching four innings of one-run baseball. The offence was led by 2nd baseman
Wade Sage who picked up three hits and two rbi's along with Center fielder
Kevin Winters who had two hits and rbi's. Ricciardi scored twice and collected two more hits to bring his average up to an even .400. Reigning OUA hitter of the year
Justin Interisano was 1-3 with four intentional walks on the day as he continues to lead the league in almost every statistical category.
Alexander Chow Brandon Poole and
Kevin Lagerquist teamed up to close out the game on the mound and secure the 7-4 victory. The sweep extends the Gryphons win streak to nine games and bring their regular season record to 13-4. Guelph has a big test this weekend as they travel to Bechtel Park Saturday to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks before hosting Western on Sunday.
