On Saturday, the Field Hockey Gryphons faced off against McGill for the second time in one week. In the previous meeting, Guelph came out on top with a 6-0 win. Today, with home field advantage, the Gryphs added two more to that tally for an 8-0 victory.
Brittany Seidler (Oliver, BC) put the Gryphons on the scoreboard at the 2-minute mark.
Amy Wise (Surrey, BC) hit the ball down the line to
Allison Chute (Greenfield Park, QC) who put the ball on the stroke mark to an open Seidler who swept the ball into the back of the net. By half, the score was 3-0 in Guelph's favour.
Five Gryphons figured into the scoring (6 in action, 1 on a penalty corner and one on a stroke) and 7 recorded assists. Seidler had 5 points with 3 goals and 2 assists; rookie Chute 2 markers and 1 assist;
Erin Houle (Burlington, ON) 1 goal and 2 assists, Wise 1 goal, 1 assist; Jess Donaldson (Kingston, ON) 1 goal while
Laura Straus (Waterloo, ON), rookies,
Austyn Baumeister (Kitimat, BC) and
Daniela Jelec (Mississauga), added an assist apiece.
The win was a full out team effort that saw the Gryphs control and dominate the play, make excellent passes and release the ball quickly. Everyone saw a lot of playing time. Straus had a strong game and hit the ball well from the sweeper position.
The Gryphons are currently tied for second spot in the OUA with a 4-0-1 record and two games in hand. Sunday, they host Western at 9:00 am and Toronto at 2:15 pm.
