Gryphons earn solid 3-0 weekend

The Gryphon women's lacrosse team had a clean sweep during OUA play this past weekend with wins over Toronto, UOIT and Queens improving their record to 4-1.

The Gryphon's opened the weekend strong with a solid win over the Varisty Blues shutting them out in a 13-0 victory. Next up for the Gryphon's were the UOIT Ridgebacks which resulted in a 15-1 victory as the team played well at both ends of the field with many players contributing on the scoresheet.

Sunday saw the Gryphon's in tough against a strong Queen's team. The score went back and forth throughout the match, but they were able to take the final lead and hold off the Golden Gaels with a score of 9-8.

The Gryphon's defence once again proved to be the backbone of the team allowing only nine goals over three games. Rookie Sam Silva stepped up with interceptions and created many turnovers. Junior Jade Sullivan once again helped the Gryphon's to control the midfield by controlling the draw, chasing down the opposition and scooping up loose balls.

"Defensively we played well this weekend and continue to work hard to gain possession," said head coach Steph Green. "Our offensive continues to develop and I am very happy with the fact that our scoring is balanced throughout the roster with 12 players contributing."

Next up for the Gryphon's are three key matches all to be held at home next weekend. Come support the team as they take on

Queen's York and Brock.
