Baseball Team splits doubleheader with Western


The Gryphon baseball team hosted the Western Mustangs this afternoon (Sept. 17) for a pair of games.

After dropping the first game 6-4 the Gryphons recovered to pull out a 3-2 win in their second game at Hastings Field. The Gryphons are now 2-4 on the season.

In game one the Mustangs scored two runs in the 13th inning to capture the win. Leading the Gryphons on the plate were several players including Steve Fleisher and Josh Kennedy who tallied three singles apiece. Kevin Lagerquist started the game and took the loss after giving up two runs off two hits in three innings. Reliever Brook Coatsworth then pitched ten innings and tallied six strikeouts (4 runs-off 6 hits).  

In the second game of the day the Gryphons recovered to take out the Mustangs in another close game, resulting in a 3-2 final decision. Guelph's Kevin Winters earned the win in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Wes Romak earned the win as he got the final two outs. Leonard Wood started the game and picked up two strikeouts, two runs off three hits in five innings of play. Romak also led at the plate with a double and single while Justin Interisano hit two singles.

Up next the Gryphons will travel to Toronto tomorrow to play a doubleheader with the Varsity Blues.  The Gryphons are looking to get back to .500.
