The Guelph Gryphons competed in the OUA Kickoff Tournament this past weekend. The Laurier Golden Hawks hosted the tournament in Guelph on the weekend. The Gryphons played a total of four games and went 2-2. After beating the Badgers 17-12 in their first game on Saturday the Gryphons fell 7-2 in their second game.
Guelph then opened Sunday with another impressive win defeating the Queens Gaels 16-3. After being up 6-2 after three innings the Gryphons went 10-1 in the fourth inning to secure the victory.
Ryan Thompson was the winning pitcher as he tossed three innings and gave up two runs off three hits.
Brandon Poole relieved for two innings and yielded one run off two hits and earned a strikeout.
Wesley Romak had six RBI's and three hits.
********************** In their final game of the weekend the Gryphons dropped a very close 9-8 game to the McMaster Marauders.
Steven Fleischer and
Marc Mongillo led the plate with three singles while
Anthony Interisano hit a double.
Andrew Lindley hit two singles and getting one single each were
Wesley Romak and
Craig Howse.
Kevin Lagerquist was charged with the loss. He surrendered nine runs off seven hits in four innings pitched and had three strikeouts.
Up next the Gryphons will host the Laurier Golden Hawks on September 14
th at Hastings Field.
