The Field Hockey Gryphons go into the Thanksgiving break with a 7-1 record and 2nd spot in the OUA.
Â
Friday at Western, the Gryphs blanked York 3-0. Rookie sweeper, Laura Straus (Waterloo, ON) helped put the red, black and gold on the scoreboard as she drove the ball up through middle of the field to Amy Wise who made a one-time sweep pass to Brittany Seidler (Oliver, BC) 4 minutes into the contest. At 13:00, Seidler added her second of the day on a penalty stroke awarded to the Gryphons as Candice Hawksworth (Burlington, ON) was intentionally fouled by a Lion defender as she had only the goalkeeper to beat. In the second frame, Guelph dominated the play again but failed to capitalize on their opportunities. However with 5 minutes on the clock, Amy Wise (Surrey, BC) gave the Gryphs a 3-0 margin which would be the final result. Courtney Lacey (Guelph, ON) and rookie Erin Houle (Burlington, ON) assisted on the goal. Seidler continues to lead the league and the country with 18 goals on the season.

Guelph returns to action next weekend at Downsview Park in Toronto. They face off against Waterloo on Saturday and Queen's on Sunday.
