Lacrosse - Men

Gryphons fall to arch-rival Badgers, 14-13

In a classic battle between two arch rivals, the men's lacrosse team came up one goal short, losing 14-13 to Brock.  The loss puts the Gryphons in second place with a 7-2 record.

Eric Hubert (Mississauga, ON) had seven goals and two assists to lead all scorers on the day.   Jordan Critch, (Orangeville, ON) had a goal and four assists while, Ryan Serville (Pickering, ON) had one and two respectively.  Curtis Knight (Oshawa, ON) had two goals, Braden Gallant (Burlington, ON) had a goal and an assist and Jordon Daradick (Welland, ON) added another for the Gryphons.   Joe Wasson (Peterborough, ON), Paul Forster (Toronto, ON) and Rusty Poulton (Toronto, ON) each had an assist.

The game was a dog fight from beginning to end.  Brock lead 4-3 after the first quarter but the Gryphons dominated the second.  Eric Hubert (Mississauga, ON) had four of his seven goals in the second as the Gryphons outscored Brock 6-4 to take a 9-8 lead at the half.

Curtis Knight (Oshawa, ON) put the Gryphons up 10-8 early in the third and Hubert added another to give the Gryphons a three-goal lead.  But penalty trouble slowed Guelph down and the momentum shifted to Brock's favour.  Brock scored five unanswered goals to take back the lead.

In the fourth, the two teams scrapped to the end.  Brock took several penalties early, but Guelph's normally potent power play was unable find the mark.  Brock then opened up a two-goal lead, forcing the Gryphons to pressure the ball.  Another Brock penalty gave the Guelph another chance to get back in and Jordan Critch (Orangeville, ON) ripped out a top corner to get the Gryphons within one with several minutes remaining.

It was all the Gryphons could manage however.  Despite forcing several turnovers in the last three minutes of the game, Guelph struggled to get a good look as the game wound down.

With one game remaining in the regular season, the Gryphons will not likely be able to climb from second to first place.  The Gryphons will have to win their final game of the season at Laurentian next Sunday, while Brock would  have to lose to Western in order for Guelph to finish first.
