Gryphons blank Badgers 68-0

The Guelph Gryphons blanked the Brock Badgers on Saturday afternoon 68-0 to move to a 4-0 regular season record on the season.

Guelph showed their scoring prowess again with 10 team tries.  In the second half, Guelph was able to move the ball quickly, find their support and hammer their way through a stiff Badger defence.  Brock had some great running opportunities but were not able to turn them into points.  Guelph's ability to turnover the ball at the point on contact is improving with each game.  That made it difficult for Brock to gain any forward momentum.

Guelph's tries came from both forwards and backs from several phases of play.  Murphy, Kirby, Newman, and Lowry all scored single tries.  Linthwaite, Benn and captain Beaton each scoring two a piece.  Guelph's #10 Tibelius made 9 out of 10 converts for 18 points.  She is the top point scorer in the OUA at the moment.  Defensively, Guelph punished the badgers with some tremendous hits from captain Caitlin Beaton, Devon Keys and Britt Benn.

Guelph's scrum was unyielding on both offense and defence, controlling the set piece.  It created ample opportunity for 2010 CIS player of the year Jacey Murphy, to run down the field and create scoring opportunities for her teammates.  The Gryphon back line was very dangerous on attack, creating overlaps and running at pace through the gain line.  The final score was Guelph 68, Brock 0.
