The Men's Lacrosse team advanced to 2-0 on the season with a convincing 17-7 over Laurentian on Friday night. Kitchener native and Gryphon goaltender Jeremy Snider had to make several big saves to open the first quarter as the Gryphons struggled to find their rhythm early in the game. Despite their slow start, scoring only once in the first 10 minutes of the opening frame, the Gryphon offense was virtually unstoppable once it got on track. Taking a 5-0 lead into the second quarter, Guelph stumbled when it took an undisciplined penalty to start the period. Laurentian capitalized on the opportunity, scoring twice during their man advantage and again, shortly thereafter. Guelph responded with 3 unanswered goals and was never challenged afterward. Guelph utilized its entire bench in the win on Friday night. "We had some very strong play from a number of rookies, including our rookie goalie", said Gryphon coach, Sam Kosakowski. Danko, from Welland, ON, faced 8 shots in the second quarter, allowing only 2 to get by him. Mike Teeter, from Orangeville ON, had4 goals and 1 assist in his first game in a Gryphon uniform. While the win was convincing, Guelph gave up 9 power play opportunities to Laurentian, something that could hurt the Gryphons against a stronger opponent. "We have to be in better control of our sticks and play defence with our feet", said Kosakowski. "Nine penalties against Brock could be disastrous for us". Justin Wilson-Kirby (Oakville, ON) had another great night for the Gryphons, scoring 6 times and assisting on another. Rounding out the game sheet were Teeter, with 4, Eric Huber with 2 and singles coming from Connor Deuchars (Toronto, ON), Curtis Knight (Oshawa, ON), Nick Smith (Mississauga, ON) and Jordan Costa (Mississauga). Guelph's weekend continues as they head to the Great Canadian Lax Bash tonight where they will take on Brock in the marquee matchup of the day. Game time is 8:30pm at Lamport Stadium in Toronto. On Sunday, the Gryphons will play host again, to Laurentian on Varsity Field at noon.
