On Sunday at Varsity Field in Guelph, the Stairs sisters (Brienne and Tegan) (Kitchener, ON) connected for 6 goals en route to a 12-0 victory over the Queen's Golden Gaels who were coming off 2 wins on Saturday.
The Gryphons dominated the play for the entire 70 minutes with everyone seeing action. Guelph kicked off the scoring 3 minutes in and continued to strike the Gael's net until the closing minutes of the game. Rookie Laura Gordon (Oakville, ON) recorded 2 goals while Oliver, BC high school teammates Liz Lutz and Brittany Seidler collected one apiece. In the closing minutes defenders Samantha Anderson (Delta, BC) and Courtney Lacey (Guelph, ON) marked their first goals of the season. Alex Bland recorded another shut out.
Overall the Gryphon backline maintained solid ball control to prevent any Queen's opportunities to counter attack.
The Gryphs close the weekend with 24 points in 8 contests for sole possession of top spot in the OUA.
Guelph travels to Waterloo to take on the Mustangs and the Warriors next weekend before the Thanksgiving break.
The women's field hockey team is proud to announce they collected 80 food items which will be donated to the Guelph Food Bank. Fans and supporters brought the food items to gain entrance to this weekend's games.
