The Guelph Open is one of the premiere wrestling competitions of the entire year. With athletes from across Canada as well as from south of the border, a select number of Gryphon varsity wrestlers get an opportunity to measure themselves against some of the very best the sport has to offer. Gryphons second year athlete Gracelynn Doogan seemed to measure up just fine.

The native of Elliot Lake, Ontario impressed on Saturday (January 16) in her home gym by winning the ultra-competitive 75 kilogram weight class. Doogan, a member Canada's Junior National Team, gave the reigning CIS Gold medalist Veronica Keefe of Concordia all she could handle before ending up on the wrong end of a tightly contested 8 to 7 score. In her next match, Doogan squared off against Kristine Longeau, a fifth year standout from the University of Regina, and pinned her opponent to win the Guelph Open in the 75 kilo weight class.

Last season as a rookie, Doogan won a CIS Silver medal and will next be in action on Saturday, January 23 when the Gryphons head to London for the Western Open.
