Jazz Lindsey (Markham, Ont.) produced one of the greatest individual offensive performances in Guelph history this past Saturday, leading the Gryphons to a thrilling 49-46 victory over the No.4 Western Mustangs. Lindsey set single game school records with 514 yards and 34 completions. With the Western defence focused on stopping the Guelph run, and with gusting winds playing a factor all day long at Alumni Stadium, Lindsey was forced to throw more than usual. Despite throwing the ball a remarkable 53 times (also a school record), he was intercepted just once as his Gryphons won in a shootout between two teams ranked in the Top 10 in the CIS. Trailing by eight late in the fourth quarter, Lindsey orchestrated a 10 play, 81-yard drive to bring the Gryphons within two. A penalty pushed the ensuing two point conversion try back to the 15-yard line, but a beautifully executed pass and catch by Lindsey and Alex Charette (St. Catherine's Ont.) tied the game at 46-46. After getting the ball back at midfield with 39.9 seconds to go and with no timeouts at his disposal, Lindsey was able to move the Gryphons into winning field goal range just before time expired.  Lindsey's outstanding performance allowed the Gryphons to improve to 6-1 on the season. The Gryphons have now secured a first round bye and will host an OUA semi-final game in three weeks' time.
