Mathieu Deschatelets a fourth year wrestler from Sturgeon Falls, Ont. won an OUA gold medal this past weekend at the OUA Wrestling Championships, held at Brock. He won the title in the men’s 82 kilogram weight class with no points scored against him in the pool play and only a single point in the championship round. In pool play he defeated Eric Jacobson from Western (4-0, 3-0) and then Tom Bentley from Lakehead (4-0, 7-0). In the finals he took the gold medal following a win over McMasters Kevin MacLelland (2-0, 1-1). He was also named an OUA all-star. Deschatelets and his teammates will now spend the next two weeks preparing for the national championships at Western from March 1-2.
