Paul Galas

The 2025-2026 season marks Paul Galas’ 7th season with the program. Galas primarily works with the horizontal jumps, high jump, combined events and assists in the pole vault. While at Guelph, Galas has coached athletes to several personal bests and accolades such as;

  • Multiple U SPORTS & OUA individual champions
  • Several national medalists and over 30 OUA medalists
  • Medalists at the Athletics Canada National Championships both U20 and Senior Divisions
  • Has coached 6 athletes to school records, multiple OUA records in the Pentathlon and a U SPORTS record in the Heptathlon HJ
  • Numerous top 10 marks in program history

During the 2024-2025 season, Galas was awarded the Petro Canada Coaching excellence award for his work with Paralympic Silver Medalist, Jesse Zesseu. Galas was later named OUA Assistant Coach of the Year for his work with the Gryphons.

Prior to joining the Gryphons, Galas was a jumper at Indiana University where he was a Big Ten Conference medalist and was a member of a Big Ten Conference Team Championship.

He would then represent Canada on junior and senior National Teams. Galas transitioned to coaching after returning to Canada and coached youth athletes at the Etobicoke Track and Field club where he coached multiple OFSAA medalists and Athletics Ontario medalists across the various jumps. 

Coach Galas is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) and American Council on Exercise certified personal trainer (CPT).

He graduated Indiana University (Bloomington, IN) with an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and later obtained his master’s degree from Canisius University (Buffalo, NY) in the field of Sport Management. Galas is an NCCP Lv2 certified jumps coach. 

Additionally, Galas is the head coach of the Royal City Athletics Club, which is the local track and field club that is home to several Olympic and National Team athletes, as well as members of the community.
