Jason Kerr

The 2026–27 season will mark Jason Kerr’s 14th season coaching at the University of Guelph. Since arriving at U of G, Kerr has transformed the Gryphon program into a national track and field powerhouse, leading teams to 18 OUA Conference championships and 15 U SPORTS National Championships
(women: 2014, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2026 / men: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024).
Kerr has been recognized as U SPORTS Coach of the Year eight times during this period.

Leading the sprints and hurdles event group, Kerr has coached dozens of national champions across all sprint and hurdle disciplines, including multiple collegiate, national, and age group record holders. Recent performances from 2026 include:

  • Travis Campbell – 6.58s (60m), second-fastest performance in U SPORTS history; World Indoor Championships qualifier
  • Gabby Cole – 7.20s (60m), second-fastest woman in U SPORTS history
  • Keon Rude – 7.75s (60m hurdles), U SPORTS and Canadian U23 record holder; World Indoor Championships qualifier
  • Nicole McKenzie – 1:26.95 (600m), Canadian record holder
  • Dianna Proctor – 37.05 (300m), Canadian U23 record

Internationally, Kerr has coached athletes to medal performances at World Junior, World Youth, NACAC, World Relay Championships, Pan American, Pan American Junior, and Para Pan Am Championships. His athletes have also represented Canada on the sport’s biggest stages. At the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Kerr coached three Gryphons: Zoe Sherar (400m, 4x400m), Craig Thorne (110m hurdles), and Jacqueline Madogo (100m, 200m, 4x100m).

Kerr guided five Gryphons to the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, including Zoe Sherar (400m, 4x400m), Dianna Proctor (400m, 4x400m), Zaid Al Awamleh (100m), Jacqueline Madogo (200m, 4x100m), and Jen Elizarov (pole vault – also coached by James Sniatenchuk & Paul Galas).

Most recently, Kerr coached three athletes at the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships—Travis Campbell (60m), Keon Rude (60m hurdles), and Zoe Sherar, who highlighted the meet by advancing to the 400m world final, finishing 8th overall.

Prior to his tenure at Guelph, Kerr completed a Masters degree in Kinesiology at Western University.

Outside of coaching, Kerr and his wife Cassandra are proud parents to their daughter, Violet Kerr.
