The 2025-26 season marks Shayne Campbell's 9th season in charge of the women's soccer program at the University of Guelph.
Prior to taking over head coaching duties in the spring of 2017, Shayne Campbell had spent five seasons as an assistant coach with the Gryphons women's soccer program. In his first season in charge in 2017, Campbell would help guide the Gryphons to the first OUA championship in program history, with Guelph defeating Western in penalties to secure the first every OUA title in women's soccer in U of G history. In 2018, Shayne became just the fourth individual in program history to be named OUA West Coach of the Year. He then took home the award for the second time in 2022.
A former University of Guelph standout soccer player himself, Shayne Campbell has significant ties to the Guelph soccer community with an extensive playing and coaching resume. He holds a CSA National A License, the USSF National B license and the CSCS from the NSCA. He is a former Guelph Gryphons men's soccer student-athlete (1992-1994) and team captain having earned three OUA All-Star nominations and was the recipient of the Department of Athletics Don Cameron award in 1994.
Campbell played professionally in several places across North America before returning home to Guelph to work in youth development at several local clubs. His community initiatives have seen him awarded a Paul Harris fellow award from Rotary and he was an inaugural recipient of Guelph's 40 under 40.
Why I love being a Gryphon:
“Having grown up in Guelph with the Gryphon community around me was always something special. Being a fan, a Gryphon Men’s soccer player, an assistant coach and now the Head Coach, well, that is a privilege that I intend to give my best effort towards. I want to ensure that each of our student-athletes has an experience that is of the highest quality on and off the field.”
