Darrell is an NCCP level III coach and concurrently coaches the Ontario Blues who compete in the new IRB sanctioned Americas Rugby Championship. The tournament sees four provincial sides from Canada joined by the Argentina Jaguars and USA "A".

Darrell spent the majority of his playing career with the Peterborough Pagans but has competed with a number of other club teams including the Burlington Centaurs and more recently the Brantford Harlequins. He has captained both his university team (1996-2000) and the men's rugby club in Peterborough (1998-2006).

In his spare time, Darrell helps to facilitate Rugby Canada's "Introduction to Competition" course, acts as a coach evaluator and assists the senior men's coach in Brantford. With the Gryphon's wining success in the last few years he earned OUA West Coach of the Year in 2008.
