The 2025-26 season marks Katie Mora's 3rd season as head coach of the University of Guelph women's hockey program.
Mora, a Guelph native and proud U of G alum, has coached with the Gryphons women's hockey program since the 2016-17 season, serving as the team's associate coach for seven seasons, where she was a key member of a Gryphon coaching staff that helped lead the U of G women’s hockey team to two OUA titles (2017-18 & 2018-19) as well as the program's lone national title (2018-19). During the 2023-24 campaign, Katie was named OUA Coach of the Year in her first season as head coach, after leading the Gryphons women's hockey team to a program-record 23 wins during the regular season.
As a student-athlete, Katie played five seasons of varsity hockey with the Gryphons (2010-11 to 2014-15), including serving as team Captain in her fifth and final season where she helped lead the Gryphons women's hockey team back to the national championship tournament for the first time in 15 years (with the 1999-2000 season marking the last time the Gryphons women's hockey team had made an appearance at nationals prior to the 2014-15 team's run). In her senior season as a Gryphon, Katie was recognized as a major award winner at the Gryphons year-end athletic banquet when she was named the recipient of the W.F. Mitchell Sportswoman of the Year award for her outstanding contributions to the women's hockey program over the course of her five seasons.
Outside of her coaching role with the Gryphons, Mora has also represented Canada on the international stage, serving as an assistant coach on the gold medal-winning Team Canada staff for the 2023 FISU games in Lake Placid, New York. Katie, a graduate of St. James Catholic High School in Guelph, also has strong local ties throughout the City of Guelph hockey community, where she has worked closely with the Guelph Girls Hockey Association (GGHA) the last number of years on skills, training and development.
In 2022, Katie was named
the recipient of the Tom Kendall Staff Development Award, given annually to a staff member from the University of Guelph's Department of Athletics who epitomizes professionalism and who goes above and beyond in support of staff and/ or student success and development.
