Dave is entering his third season of coaching with the Guelph Gryphons. Prior to the Gryphons David was an Assistant Coach with the OHL’s Guelph Storm from 2007 until 2011; Head Coach and GM of the St. Thomas Stars Jr. B Hockey team in 2005 – 2006 and was named Assistant Coach of the 2006 WOHL All-Star Team; Assistant Coach with The University of Western Ontario Mustangs Men’s Hockey Program from 2003 – 2005 and assisted Western in achieving their second OUA Championship Title.
In the spring of 2010 David was named Head Coach of team OMHA U-16’s which won gold at the inaugural Ontario U-16 All-Star tournament in Kitchener, Ontario. Following this event the Hockey Development Centre of Ontario (HDCO) and the OHL named David Head Coach of Team Ontario which competed and represented Ontario at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax, Nova Scotia. David has also served as a head coach for five years at the OHL’s U-16 hockey camps which introduces major bantam hockey players to elite level hockey and the Ontario Hockey League.
Receiving his High Performance I (HPI) coaching certification in 2009 through Hockey Canada; David also achieved an Honours B.A from the University of Guelph; an M.A in Kinesiology (specialization in coaching) from The University of Western Ontario; and his B.Ed from The University of Western Ontario.
Milek, a defenceman, played five seasons of Provincial Jr. A hockey in Ontario and Saskatchewan. Following his junior hockey career David went on to represent the Guelph Gryphons in 5 seasons from 1996 – 2001. David also played one season of professional hockey in the West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) with the Bakersfield Condors and Long Beach Ice Dogs. His biggest highlight as a player was winning the 1997 OUA & CIS hockey championship with the Guelph Gryphons.
