Marcello Simmons – Defensive Back Coach

Marcello was appointed to the Gryphon coaching staff in the spring of 2011 and will coach the Defensive Backs. Prior to his appointment at Guelph, Marcello spent the 2010 season at Acadia University as the Defensive Backs Coach. In 2009 Marcello participated in the NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Seattle Seahawks. Marcello was the Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Assistant for the Toronto Argonauts for six seasons (2003-2008). Marcello played in the CFL for seven years, including six as a Toronto Argonaut, one as an Edmonton Eskimo and a brief stint with the B.C Lions. Before that he played in the NFL for the two seasons after being drafted in the fourth round (the 90th player selected overall) by the Cincinnati Bengals in 1993. He played in every game as a rookie and started two games. He was the only one of two rookies drafted by the Bengals in 1993 to play in every game.
Marcello is an alumnus of Southern Methodist University with a B.A. in Advertising.
