Shannon Baskin

  • Title
    Assistant Coach

Shannon has been the Assistant Coach with the Gryphons since 2004. She helped lead Guelph to their first-ever OUA gold (2007) followed by wins in 2009 and 2010, silver (2008, 2005) and to a silver medal (2007) and bronze (2010) at the CIS Championships. She was part of the OUA and CIS Coach of the Year staff in 2004 with Guelph and in 2002 with the Western Mustangs.

Baskin predominantly works with the goalkeepers but has a vision and awareness in all areas on the pitch. She brings her hard-nosed attitude day in and day out and a competitive edge to the Gryphons.

In 2001 and 2002, Baskin was an assistant coach at the University of Western Ontario. The Mustangs captured OUA silver and earned the school’s first appearance at the CIS Championships.

Shannon coached in the Ontario U16 Provincial program for 4 seasons (2004-2007).

This former OUA All-Star and team captain was extremely versatile. She came to the Gryphons as a field player but due to her speed, strength and natural ability took on the goalkeeping role early on in her career. She flourished into one of the best netminders ever to wear a Gryphon uniform. Shannon also excelled in academics, as she was a 3-time Academic All-Canadian.

Shannon graduated from the University of Guelph in 2002 with a degree in Fine Art and Art History. In her spare time, you might find her surfing the waves in her kayak or climbing to new peaks on her mountain bike. She is also a runner, completing the Disney Goofy Challenge (Half Marathon followed the next day by a Marathon), Mississauga and Niagara Half-Marathon.
