Dean Mariani

The 2024 season marks Dean Mariani's 7th season as head coach of the Gryphon baseball team.

The former U of G infielder, who played for the Gryphons from 2010-2013, served as an assistant coach for four years prior to taking over head coaching duties in 2018. The Mississauga native graduated from U of G with a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing).

Since graduating, Mariani has gained valuable coaching experience within the Mississauga North system as well as with the Ontario Blue Jays. Coach Mariani is also the President and Director of Operations for Core Baseball, Ontario's largest youth baseball development program. For his 'day time job', Dean works with CBRE Canada as a Sales Representative.

During the 2019 season, Coach Mariani led his squad to a national title, as the Gryphons came out on top of the inaugural edition of the Canadian University National Invitational Baseball Tournament. The tournament was held in Ajax, Ontario and took place from Oct. 18-20, 2019. The six-team field featured teams from Atlantic Canada (Acadia), Quebec (Concordia and McGill) and Ontario (Guelph, Laurier and McMaster), with the Gryphons defeating the Laurier Golden Hawks by a score of 2-1 in the gold medal game.
