GRYPHONS MEN'S HOCKEY "RIDGETOWN SHOWDOWN"

The "Ridgetown Showdown" was created in 2017 with one simple goal in mind: to celebrate the University of Guelph's Ridgetown Campus and to engage our men's hockey team with the over 650 students, faculty and staff that make up U of G's Ridgetown Campus.

Located in the heart of Ridgetown, the East Kent Memorial Arena is walking distance from U of G's Ridgetown campus. The arena, which was first built in 1954 before undergoing significant renovations and additions both in the 1970's as well as the mid 1990's, has primarily served as the host to minor hockey games in the Chatham-Kent municipality, including AAA hockey (ranging from novice to midget). East Kent Memorial Arena has also occasionally hosted Jr. C hockey games, with both the Blenheim Blades and Dresden Kings having played regular season home games in Ridgetown.

The inaugural "Ridgetown Showdown," which took place on October 1, 2017, marked the first time that East Kent Memorial Arena hosted a University hockey game. The arena seats approximately 800 and features a full concession booth on the main level, as well as a second floor auditorium providing spectators an elevated viewing area overlooking the ice. Both the 2017 and 2018 editions of the "Ridgetown Showdown" saw the Gryphons skate to wins over the Windsor Lancers in OUA preseason action.
